New Unique Slack Packing Routes on the Garden Route
If exploring fantastic beauty and nature with a degree of comfort at reasonable rates is your beat – then you need to check out The Green Ticket Trails in The Crags area of the Garden Route near Plettenberg Bay.
The Green Ticket – which is a Reforestation project based in The Crags has introduced a 3-night hiking trail entitled “The Crags to Coast“ which explores The Crags and Nature’s Valley routes known only to locals familiar with the SANParks De Vasselot Section of the Garden Route National Park, from their overnight base at Tenikwa Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre in The Crags.
Apart from the unbelievable beauty of walking through indigenous evergreen forests and along pristine beaches on old “Strandlooper” trails where midden evidence shows human presence dating back as far as 20,000 years, and even older Stone Age axe relics abound on certain prominent ridges.
On the afternoon of arrival, Tenikwa will introduce their Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre to you and perhaps entice you to become a “Friend of Tenikwa”. The Green Ticket will answer questions about the following days hiking programme, terrain and Fauna and Flora to expect, and furthermore will talk about the concept of Carbon Capture Mitigation through not only Reforestation but also the importance of grasslands in Carbon Dioxide storage for a healthy biotic environment and your support of a local plant Nursery affiliated with The Green Ticket Nurseries.
While the Launch/Initial Trail is the 3 night “The Crags to Coast” trail – with accommodation and meals at Tenikwa each night, other routes and trails in the area are being planned and researched by The Green Ticket, including an organized hike to summit Formosa Peak (weather permitting, specifically wind) and new packages walking and cycling the Baviaanskloof and Kouga mountains. San rock paintings in this area depict strange spiritual scenes and are found in typical kloof and cave settings. This region boasts seven of the nine biomes in Southern Africa including having the status of a World Heritage Site.
Each trail is organized and facilitated by Academia Naturalis, who represent The Green Ticket and who have a socially responsible branch of their company, called BSIDP, which will be training up local village guides following the Field Guides Association doctrine and principles and who will be accompanying these groups.
Our 3 day/night The Crags to Coast guided trail package includes:
